Introduction

I am pleased to present this seventh annual report from Nottinghamshire Enterprises. The past year has seen the company mature and refine its purpose. There is clarity of focus and a renewed level of assurance that comes with success and achievement within the business, which is pleasing to me as Chairman to see and report on.

Success

Success has characterised the past year and some of the more noteworthy achievements to draw attention to are these:

• Gained full planning permission to extend the accommodation at Edwinstowe House by a further 20,000 square feet
• Completed the purchase of Blackburn House and filling it with new tenants and conferencing customers
• Won the contract from Newark and Sherwood District Council to manage the Newark Beacon – a further 20,000 square feet of new build incubation space
• Won a major new contract from the Regional Development Agency to deliver Information Communication Technology to small and medium sized businesses across our region
• Worked with the Accession State of Hungary on developing economic regeneration projects that will deliver skills and jobs in the short and medium term
• Designed and developed the only project in it’s category in the United Kingdom to be recognised as an exemplar by the European Commission in the ‘Regions for Economic Change’ initiative
• Continued to meet the challenging standards set for us by the European Business Incubation and Innovation Network (EBN)
• Worked with our local village community to support their efforts and exhibit their superlative art work.

Each of these achievements will form the building blocks for next year’s work which will set us on course to manage over 100,000 square feet of business incubation and managed workspace, together with substantial business support contracts making a fully rounded service to new, growing and developing businesses in the region.

I would like to thank my fellow directors, who have contributed their skills and expertise freely to the company, delivering high level guidance to the executive team, always with due regard to best practice in corporate governance. My thanks also go to the staff of the company, our customers and partners who have worked together to ensure a real contribution to developing businesses locally and regionally.
