Carreer Chain - Still Going Strong

The NE Group, in conjunction with a number of other partner organisations, was pleased to host a Career Chain event recently to encourage more businesses to support this successful ongoing project.

Career Chain began back in 2008 and is a redeployment and recruitment service that operates throughout the East Midlands to support engineers and construction professionals who are under threat of redundancy, to find alternative employment.

The project’s aim is to retain engineering and construction skills within the area with support for individuals which includes skills gap analysis, CV writing, confidence building and interview techniques as well as tailored support for business to aid with redundancy processes and recruitment. Since its inception, it has achieved an enviable return on investment of £2.70 for every £1 spent and has supported nearly 2500 individuals and 290 businesses. Of the individuals supported, 52% returned to work within three months after being made redundant. Latterly, Career Chain has had to become self financing due to cuts in funding, hence the event to raise awareness and encourage participation by local businesses within the specific sectors it serves.

The event, held on Friday 20th May at Edwinstowe House, brought together a number of partners and guests to listen to presentations from Sherwood MP Mark Spencer, Iain Snape from Rolls Royce and Sandra Cowley from Women in Engineering as well as The NE Group Chief Executive, Spencer Prewett.

Spencer Prewett commented; “We have been delighted to both host this event and to be involved in the delivery of the Career Chain service. It is vital that this successful project is able to continue now funding is no longer available as re-skilling and redeployment of experience supports new business growth. Participating companies can not only achieve support with redundancy processes but with recruitment, training, sourcing apprentices and supply chain contacts as well as receiving notification of potential funding streams and best practice sharing”.
