Q: What was the process for you joining The NE Group?

I spent 3 years at the University of Hull learning Business Studies. The first year of the course provided me with a broad introduction to all aspects of Business. The following 2 years allowed for the course to become more specific, in which I chose to concentrate on Management and Marketing. Upon graduating in the summer of 2006 and returning back home I continued with bar work as I sought to raise funds for travelling. However, situations changed and I decided that travelling was no longer a priority and I began the demanding task of hunting for ‘graduate’ work.

The search for ‘graduate work’ was not easy owing to the apparent lack of opportunities in the region. However, the jobs that seemed to offer a suitable level of work for a graduate qualification demanded a greater level of experience than I could provide. Therefore I ended up taking a number of temping positions eventually finding a permanent position as an Account Manager providing a broker service in the electronics industry. Unfortunately this role was largely disappointing, as it was neither challenging nor rewarding and I was appointed under the false pretence that the job was a graduate programme.

Feeling very unhappy I left the job as an Account Manager and realised by a stroke of luck that there was a careers fair in the town the following day. I attended the careers fair and visited the NE stand. At the NE stand I spoke to a lady. The lady said that her company had a graduate programme. I gave the lady my details.
