Eclectic Energy
Case Studies |
Eclectic EnergyEclectic Energy Limited was incorporated five years ago in November 1999. Whilst nearing the end of his Post Graduate Diploma in Engineering Enterprise at Nottingham Trent University, Peter Anderson the Managing Director, was looking for a central base for Eclectic Energy to begin operating. The university recommended Edwinstowe House and in January 2000 they took residency and they haven't looked back since. Eclectic are pioneers in the niche market of renewable energy technologies and they have designed a range of innovative wind and water generated turbines. In 2003 they won the UK Trade & Investment’s Passport to Export (East Midlands) Award for the Nottinghamshire area and have been steadily building their business, reputation and client base and are going from strength to strength. In today's climate with worries of global warming and diminishing fuel resources the need to embrace natural environmentally friendly alternatives is evident. This is a rapidly growing industry with enormous potential for people such as Peter Anderson who have an interest in designing equipment to produce renewable energy. Interest has come from a variety of clients from businesses, to individuals who enjoy outdoor pursuits from caravanning to yachting around the world. Eclectic have designed and manufactured a range of products at their premises at Edwinstowe House, a location which provides them with access to support and advice from the Centre for Technology Excellence (CTE). Members of the Eclectic team have attended IT courses that run throughout the year, and skills learned have improved the company’s sales and office administration. In May 2002 Eclectic launched the DuoGen, a patented wind and water combined generator, specifically designed to maximise power generation on cruising yachts. The DuoGen has proved extremely popular amongst yachtsmen. This innovative and reliable turbine allows energy to be produced at all times; when sailing the device is simply lowered in to the water where it continues to provide environmentally friendly energy to the yacht and its crew. Recent SuccessesEclectic's new product the D400 'Roof Rotor' Wind Generator has been well received at exhibitions in both London and Amsterdam. The success of the D400 'Roof Rotor' resulted in Peter Anderson being invited to a Parliamentary Reception, hosted by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers in London in February. Eclectic were asked to display the D400 and Peter got the opportunity to speak with MPs, MEPs, academics and government officials about the benefits and potentials of such products. Local councils have also been interested in Eclectic’s roof-top turbine technology. They are keen to begin trials and demonstrations to promote the benefits of wind generated power and are in talks with Eclectic with a view to running this project with them. What's Next?New for 2005 is the new-look DuoGen aptly named the DuoGen 2 which is set for release early 2005. The success of the original and customer feedback has driven the new design which still has all the benefits of the original; it is quiet running, easy to use and has powerful performance but the DuoGen 2 is even more robust and sleeker. SummaryEclectic are a great example of what can be achieved with hard work and a flare for design and invention. The company has grown in size, use sub-contractors to meet the demand for their products and are continuing to improve on existing products whilst developing new ones. Alison Anderson of Eclectic Energy said "Edwinstowe House has proved an excellent base for Eclectic. It sets a professional image with its reception and facilities, as well as providing many business supports that are invaluable for a small company. Peter makes good use of the Innovation Support Unit (Workshop) when prototyping and customising products. Also, we have taken advantage of the CTE workshops that were made available to us and found them informative and well-presented. Undoubtedly, Edwinstowe House has helped us achieve success in the development of the company, and we look forward to continuing growth in the future. |
